ReCreate align with the following ethical values:
ReCreate is a boutique fashion brand that transforms the lives of their producers through fair employment, training and empowerment. ReCreate focus on ethical and sustainable production at every stage of the process, from crop to customer.
We spoke to Erica, Founder of ReCeate:
Meet the makers: Can you tell us about the people who make your products?
We absolutely love our production team in Cambodia. Although we originally started with a focus on empowering women, we now employ a small team of both men and women from the Dey Tmey community. We still have our very first student who has now been promoted to sewing trainer - her husband also came to work with us in sewing and machine repair, so it really is a very close, family-oriented team. New students join the team every year and it’s so lovely to see existing team members support and encourage one another in learning a new skill.
What is your main ethical and sustainable agenda?
ReCreate exists to transform lives. We do this by creating boutique fashion that is ethically and sustainably produced from crop to customer, protecting and empowering people and the environment at every step of the journey.
What has challenged you the most since starting your business?
Our biggest challenge has been producing our clothing in a foreign, developing country where corruption and exploitation is common. This brings many complexities with communication, planning and understanding, so it has been a great lesson for our team in embracing cultural differences.
