Permanent Vacation (PV) is an ongoing project series that explores design as an expression of sentiment. Made in Melbourne, Permanent Vacation rejects traditional fashion seasons and rather creates collections with limited runs that celebrate effortless, considered and timeless design.
With a focus on creating well-made pieces and producing only to meet demand, Permanent Vacation is designed and made in Melbourne Australia. All of the makers that produce their garments are located within a 15km radius of Permanent Vacation Studio in Collingwood.
PV Founder & Designer Claire explained "I work with four small factories in Melbourne (two that specialise in jersey/knit and two that make woven pieces/denim). All are a short drive from the studio and it's so lovely being able to foster personal relationships with each maker that works on PV's pieces... we often just catch up at the factory for a coffee and a chat. Supporting Australian manufacture and the local economy is important, especially at a time like now".
There's a definite 90s influence to PV, and Claire is inspired by the everydayness of suburbia and suburban landscapes, which is often where she discovers interesting combinations of colour / texture that help to inform each collection. Claire is also hugely drawn to practicality... but then conversely each new Project tends to be inspired by issues that are impacting her emotionally at the time of design, whether that's climate change, a breakup or social disquiet.
