Mindful Boss Ladies
Recently I became a member of a Facebook group dedicated to creating a community of smart women, who are running businesses with environmental and ethical values at the core, Mindful Boss Ladies. The group, set up by Jennifer Nini of Eco Warrior Princess has been a great place to ask business questions and share things we feel other members of the group would benefit from.
This sunday, a few of us Mindful Boss Ladies got together to talk projects, fashion, sustainability and because we're all pretty normal...men. All of this over a few wines was the perfect recipe for smart discussions with really inspiring ladies.
This got me thinking about other women in business, who are doing great things and deserve to be applauded. This is not a feminist post - don't worry! I just want to showcase a few of the women out there that are, let's say, killing it!
Veronika Scott, CEO & Founder - The Empowerment Plan
Veronika Scott has built a social enterprise that began as a school project. The project was to design a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag for homeless people. That idea has now evolved into a system of empowerment that creates jobs to permanently lift people out of poverty and offer the women of Detroit who live on the streets a chance to gain back some independence.
Jami Schaer, Founder & Owner & Laura Wood, Owner - Fox and Trove
I'm sure you have often thought to yourself "What world will my children grow up in?". These fabulous mindful boss ladies at the Fox and Trove based in Chicago share a passion to change the world our kids grow up in by teaching them the importance of being kind and spreading it like wildfire to others, one cool tee at a time.
Fox and Trove have just announced the launch of Camp Kind. Camp Kind includes an assembly program for preschools and kindergarten classrooms, curriculum-in-a-box for out of state schools and a summer camp. Their preschool and kindergarten assemblies foster social and emotional competence by introducing kids to the concepts of kindness, empathy, emotion regulation, self calming techniques and conflict resolution in fun, age-appropriate activities.
Anna Dohnt, Director and Educator - Change Threads
Is your child wearing a school uniform that was made by another child? Anna Dohnt set out on a journey to create a fully ethical supply chain for manufactures producing school uniforms. Change Threads currently offers sustainable alternatives in school wear, with Hazelbrook Public School becoming the first in New South Wales to stock Fairtrade uniforms.
The uniforms are sourced and manufactured in India from organic and Fairtrade certified cotton, their woven fabrics are combined with polyester made from recycled plastic bottles.
Natalie Issacs, Founder - 1 Million Women
1 Million Women is a movement of women & girls acting on climate change through the way they live and their everyday choices.
1 Million Women transformed much-loved song, ‘You’re the voice’ into a powerful anthem from women for climate action and hope. Their Anthem comes at a pivotal and crucial time as the world implements the new climate change treaty to prevent dangerous global warming.
They are using the power of music to inspire every woman, man or child to add their voice by hastagging #IMTHEVOICE to form a united call to world leaders for strong action on climate change.
