Jeans for Genes
Jeans for Genes day is coming up. Every year on the first Friday of August, people are encouraged to wear their jeans and donate towards Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI). CMRI continue to carry out life saving research into genetic disorders, diseases and cancers in children. So, we all own a pair of jeans. In fact, recent studies from Roy Morgan Research reveal that, in any given four-week period, more than 1.7 million Australians buy at least one pair of denim jeans. That'a a lot of denim. Which means at least 1.7 million of us can wear our jeans on August 5th and raise money for a great cause. However, for those of you (I'm not sure who) that don't own a pair a jeans, here is a list of ethically made denim to choose from; an informed purchase is the best purchase. Thank you to Project JUST and Good On You app for providing some of this information
#1 Nobody Denim
From what started in 1999 as a Melbourne backstreet laundry, Nobody Denim now produces multiple styles of jeans for all shapes and sizes. Working hard to keep production local and transparent they always use the best materials and support ethical labour practices. I recently purchased my first pair of Nobody Denim jeans, opting for the black, high waist and ripped Siren Skinny Jeans - perfect all year round!
#2 Mud Jeans
Mud Jeans created their own circle of recycled denim products. Using only ecologically certified cotton and recycled organic cotton to make each item of clothing. Their "Lease a Jeans" concept means the consumer will no longer buy their jeans, but lease them. This way, the fashion label retains ownership of the jeans and most importantly, the materials. Producing the jeans from sustainable organic cotton and designing them for disassembly enables effective recycling.
#3 Nudie Jeans
The Naked Truth About Denim; Nudie Jeans. Each pair of Nudie Jeans are made from 100% organic cotton denim, with socially responsible and transparent production at the forefront of the brand. Nudie Jeans strives for sustainable consumption by offering a free repair service, reselling second hand products and recycling worn out products. Nudie Jeans produce high quality products made in a fair
Patagonia's mission statement is "Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis". This statement is so powerful yet shouldn't this just be standard procedure? At Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. They donate their time, services and at least 1% of sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide.
